Show Notes

This week we finally dove head first into the lockout's thorniest issues, including the salary cap, universal DH, expanded playoffs, international draft and the draft lottery. Naturally, and thankfully, the players and owners came to an agreement roughly 48 hours later to end the lockout meaning baseball is back! Opening Day has been pushed only to April 7, meaning an abbreviated Spring Training plus what promises to be frenzied activity to sign free agents, including Carlos Correa, Trevor Story and Clayton Kershaw to name three. Good times.

Contract and team salary information comes from Cot's Contracts. Highly recommended. All information from the site quoted on the show were accessed March 7, 2022.

Errata: The actual quote from Tommy Lasorda is: "No matter how good you are, you're going to lose one-third of your games. No matter how bad you are you're going to win one-third of your games. It's the other third that makes the difference.” It's 16 teams that would not make the playoffs if there were a 14-team playoff, not 15 teams out. Finally, it's "length of the game" or "pace of play," not "length of play."
