Show Notes

In this episode Eric and Craig interviewed author Scott Russell. Russell has released an authorized biography, "The Spaceman Chronicles: The Life of the Earthling Named Bill Lee," about, unsurprisingly, Bill "Spaceman" Lee -- not only a talented pitcher but perhaps more notably among the most colorful characters in Major League Baseball history,

As it happened, Bill Lee phoned in to the show a few minutes into the interview (the first Hook & Runs call-in ever!) and hilarity ensued. Let's see, the quartet covered Lee's stellar 14-year career, the infamous Red Sox collapse of 1978, Lee's later resurgence in Montreal, changing the locks on Bob Dylan's house in Malibu, Lee's recipe for a return civility to our culture and whether sabermetrics or shavermetrics makes for better pitching outcomes. And there's much, much more!  Lee and Russell were a treat to have on the show and Russell's book is a must-read for anyone who wants to relive (or live for the first time) the crazy world that was 1970's Major League Baseball - especially Lee's corner of it.

Incidentally, you can buy the book on Amazon (see link above) or through the publisher, Stillwater River Publications of Pawtucket RI. Interested in a Bill Lee autographed copy? We're told emailing info@stillwaterbooksri.com is a good first step toward obtaining one.

Also, Craig recently discovered the raging social media controversy -- whether or not beans belong in chili. It goes without saying Eric has been on top of it from day one. Eric and Craig work their way through the matter, eventually settling on a possible resolution, but as this is typed, that resolution is been found wanting. This topic will likely be revisited next week.
